The Faculty of Law in Oslo is the largest educational and research institution within the field of law in Norway, and educates about 75% of all new legal candidates in Norway, and is the work- and studyplace for about 270 employees and 4 300 students. Professor of Law - European Law

Description

The Scandinavian Institute of Maritime Law at the Faculty of Law has a vacant position as Professor (SKO 1013) with a special focus on issues relating to EU and EEA law.

The Faculty of Law in Oslo is Norway’s largest research and teaching environment in the field of Law.

The Scandinavian Institute of Maritime Law is one of five main units within the Faculty of Law. The institute is divided into three sections: the Department of Maritime Law, the Department of Petroleum and Energy Law, and the Centre for European Law. 

The Centre for European Law conducts research on issues relating to EU and EEA law. It serves as a meeting place for research on European law at the Faculty of Law.

The position entails general research and teaching duties. 

The duties associated with the position consist of 47.5% research, 47.5% teaching and examinations, and 5% administration. 

There is a special need for teaching Law at the master’s level. 

 

Required qualifications 

Applicants must document that they possess general scholarly expertise at the professor level in the field of Law. They must also document that they have attained a basic educational qualification equivalent to a Norwegian master’s degree in Law and have completed a doctorate on a topic related to EU or EEA law. 

Applicants must document that they have expertise on EU law in general and on EU institutional and constitutional law in particular. At least one of the applicant’s publications must provide an in-depth analysis of issues relating to EU law that are raised by the EU’s association and cooperation agreements with third countries. 

When assessing the applications, special importance will be attached to the applicant’s expertise on various levels of integration, such as membership, association agreements, neighbourhood policy agreements and relations with other third countries. Particular weight will also be given to publications that address issues of membership in and the expansion of the EU (including conditions of membership) as well as exit from the EU. 

Applicants must be internationally recognised. They must have the qualifications needed to contribute to the highest level of research on EU and EEA law at the Faculty and to attract external research funding to the field of European Law. 

 

Basis for assessment

When assessing the applicants, priority will be given to expertise in the field of Law, publications in international journals, other international dissemination and publication activity, participation in international researcher networks, and teaching experience.

The position entails general research and teaching duties. Applicants who cannot document that they possess the basic teaching qualification at the time of appointment to the position must acquire this within a two-year period following the date of appointment. The appointee must acquire skills in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language good enough for teaching purposes within three years after assuming the position.

When ranking qualified applicants, the entire range of the applicants’ qualifications will be taken into account and assessed in detail.

The applicant must submit a note of maximum 6 pages consisting of:

(1) The applicant's educational view.

(2) Research plan for the coming years.

(3) The applicant's experience with dissemination in their relevant fields, and suggestions for future dissemination.

Scholarly qualifications will be given priority over other academic and other qualifications.

Promising applicants will be called in for an interview, and may be asked to deliver a trial lecture.

In addition, up to 10 scholarly publications may be submitted. These must be submitted in four copies and must be written in Norwegian, Swedish, Danish or English, unless the institute approves a different language. If the publications are written by multiple authors, a statement of co-authorship must explain how the work was divided among the authors. It is not possible to submit or announce publications after the application deadline expires.
